I’m On the ActsSocial Christian Social Media Platform – Now What?

A few days ago I watched a short video on X (twitter) made by conservative Christian actor Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Andromeda). He was promoting a Christian social media app called ActsSocial.

Sure, like I need another social media app. But I was curious and impulsively created an account.

I’ll admit, it’s a little difficult to navigate. Alright, it’s difficult to navigate. Have a look at the feed.

Members are prompted to post gratitude, ask for prayers and a variety of other activities. There are posts, images, and videos that seemingly randomly pop up in the feed asking for prayers or making a variety of Christian faith-based commentaries.

I had a question about a group I’d joined and contacted their customer service. They say all emails are read by a human being and in less than an hour, someone got back to me with an answer that was straightforward and courteous.

No ads, no bots, and all accounts verified to be real people. No cost for anything (someone must be paying the bills so I don’t know if this will last).

Now I’m not sure what to do with it.

I have Kevin Sorbo as my only “friend” on the app because I clicked on his direct link invitation.

Here’s mine: James Pyles Profile. At least I think that’s how it works. Like I said, it’s a little difficult to navigate through everything.

On their main page, I clicked the “A 90-Second Tour” button but nothing happens.

You can get the app for your phone at Google Play and Apple Store. Both platforms have pretty good reviews for the app.

As far as I can tell, ActsSocial was founded in 2022 by Shawn Whitson and had its global launch in June 2025. The platform’s public/expanded rollout was July 2026, which probably means most of us are experiencing it as brand new.

I’ve seen a number of press releases from places such as Religion News Service, NorthJersey.com, and the Associated Press.

There’s a video from their founder on the Values page which explains his motivation for creating the app (see the screenshot above).

I guess you can follow people and they can follow you, but again, I don’t know how that works yet. I’ve posted a little bit and gotten a number of reactions to my “gratitude” from complete strangers.

From what I can find online, ActsSocial has at least 7,000 verified members across 195 countries. Again, it sounds like most of the world didn’t know the platform existed until less than a month ago, so it’s a real online infant, so to speak.

From what I’ve read so far, ActsSocial seems to be open and above board, which is a wonder for an online presence in the social media space.

I think it would be cool to be able to network with those Christians who are like minded, which in my case would be science fiction and fantasy authors and non-Jewish believers whose faith and theology is informed from a Hebraic perspective.

I’m more than a little hesitant to directly interact with anyone. I don’t speak “Christianese” very well, even after twenty-five or so years in the faith. I don’t break out with “the Lord spoke to me” or “I felt the movement of the Holy Spirit” or “Satan has been attacking me especially hard this week” the way many Christians do.

But I do know a few other Christian science fiction and fantasy writers and editors and it would be great to have one place where we could all get together (virtually) and hobnob as opposed to being spread out over a bunch of other social media venues.

I don’t know who still reads my “Morning Meditation” since I rarely post here anymore (the online “religious wars” seem to have cooled considerably, but I still get the occasional “zinger” through the comments now and again). If you’ve read this and have something to say about it, let me know.

Not sure how long I’ll keep my account there, maybe a long time, but I don’t know yet.

We’ll see.

  1. I saw the first few seconds of Kevin Sorbo advertising something, and this must have been it, but I continued scrolling without watching it. So you have my thanks for your review. I’ll be interested to see if you have anything further to report if you experience any response to comments you might share there as a “non-Jewish believer whose faith and theology is informed from a Hebraic perspective”. I rather suspect that I, as an orthodox Jewish disciple of the ancient Israeli rabbi haRav Yeshua ben-Yosef, therefore not at all a Christian, would feel quite out of place even visiting in such a venue regardless of whether they share “judeo-christian” values — as several prominent members of the current administration have invoked the notion. I wonder, occasionally, how haRav Shaul himself, aka the apostle Paul, the “Pharisee and son of the Pharisees” (פרושי ובן הפרושים), would fare in such modern gatherings of the uncircumcised. They’ve come a long way since the days of the Galatians and other God-fearers of his first-century era. Why, they don’t even know Greek, except in scholarly circles! [;)]

  2. James, I still read your post and it’s good to see you back. Some of you post got me through a difficult time in my life (about 10 or 12 years ago). I hope all is well with you!

    1. I come back occasionally, but most of the time I don’t feel I have anything much left to offer in the theological realm. I’m so glad that what I’ve written in the past was helpful. I guess this is a sign that we don’t always know the impact we have on the lives of others. I pray you are doing well.
