Schrödinger’s Pie

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Preamble to the Declaration of Independence

This is the third and last “pie” blog in the “trilogy.” As someone’s pointed out, I’ve been mixing “rights” with “public opinion” and they aren’t the same thing. Rights, at least as defined above, are endowed upon us by our Creator, the Almighty, God of Israel as described in the Holy Bible.

People possess rights, they aren’t “allowed” rights by the government. The government doesn’t give us rights, they are prevented (ideally) from interfering with our rights. Never mind that governments interfere with human rights on a regular basis.

However, some people say they don’t have the same rights as others, hence the “pie” meme or metaphor or whatever you want to call it.

For instance, this opinion piece from the Arizona Central states in part:

The American Dream is not real if African Americans are guilty until they can prove themselves innocent, and white people are innocent until you prove them guilty. If we can create one system of justice in this country, that applied fairly to all, it would help to alleviate racism, discrimination and all the gaps and disparities that exist in the courts, schools, housing, employment, health care and beyond.

To quote Psalm 13, we ask, “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?”

As an aside, it’s funny that one of the Psalms is being applied here since all of the Psalms and most of the Bible were written by Jews and for Jews. Period. I’ll get to that in a minute.

African-Americans and their “allies” state that they aren’t treated as if they have the same rights as white Americans. So, while black Americans and all other Americans possess the same rights conferred upon them by their/our Creator, how the authorities, certain parts of our culture, and even how the media perceives blacks indeed does interfere with how their rights are interrupted.

Many other groups make similar claims, with white, male, “cisgender” people being at the top of the “rights” heap.

So you can have full rights, but the authorities who are dispensing those rights can discriminate.

That was my point in the first two parts of this series Yes, It’s a Pie, But Let Me Explain and Whoever is in Charge Controls the Pie. If you can manipulate public perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs about a group, and if the government, corporations, and even celebrities go along with it to gain votes, money, and popularity, then you can definitely interfere with how rights and even concern or caring is applied to said-groups.

In that sense, it really is a pie.

However let’s get back to “rights” and God.

God can’t be interfered with as He is the Supreme Being and needs nothing from mortal humanity. The rights He confers to us as our Creator are inalienable and immutable. We all possess them equally and impartially. That means every single human being who has ever been born and who will ever be born possesses the exact same rights as given by God.

In that sense, it’s not a pie. There is no pie. There is only the One, God.

So what happened? People happened. People make it into a pie, in spite of the meme created by a particular demographic. What that demographic REALLY means (in my opinion) is that once those in authority align with the formerly disadvantaged, and said-formerly disadvantaged become powerful enough, they will limit or remove the rights from other groups in order to make themselves feel better.

See how it works? That’s pretty much what white, male, cisgender Americans are being accused of right now.

Can a certain political party eventually achieve real equal rights among 100% of Americans? No and that’s the point. The goal isn’t to achieve “pielessness.” The goal is to shift who have the most pie from one group to one or more other groups. That’s how humans operate. In spite of all the positive rhetoric about the benefits of communism or socialism, in fact, no communist or socialist government has existed or will ever exit where there isn’t at least two tiers of citizens: The “haves” and the “have nots.”

That’s just like now under every form of government on Earth.

If those who say they hate “evil” capitalism and love wonderful communism and socialism would arrive at that truth of human existence, they’d probably be pretty depressed.

So will people ever really, really have “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness?”

Sure, but the people crying out for their rights aren’t going to like the answer.

Truly, truly I say to you, the one who receives anyone I send, receives Me; and the one who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. –John 13:20 (NASB)

…that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved… –Romans 10:9

… so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. –Philippians 2:10-11

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. –Galatians 3:28

There’s a lot more, but basically that’s the answer as far as being received by God and being made a child of promise. Well, that’s specifically for Gentiles since we Gentiles don’t have a covenant with God while the Jews have many.

Most Christians would deny this and condemn me, but I don’t believe God will throw the Jews on the trash heap in the Final Judgment just because they didn’t abandon their Judaism, the Torah, or the Covenants to become a normative goyish Christian.

The God who created all existence including the universe, the planet Earth, and all life everywhere considers us, in terms of inalienable rights, equal. Again, it gets complicated when we try to describe the covenant differences between Jews and Gentiles before God, however, even prior to the earthly ministry of Jesus, God intended that gentiles not be ignored or discounted.

Also a gentile who is not of Your people Israel, but will come from a distant land for Your Name’s sake, for they will hear of Your great Name and Your strong hand and Your outstretched arm and will come and pray toward this Temple, may You hear from Heaven, the foundation of Your abode, and act according to all that the gentile calls out to You, so that all the peoples of the world may know Your Name, to fear You as [does] Your people Israel, and to know that Your Name is proclaimed upon this Temple that I have built. –I Kings 8:41-43 (Stone Edition Tanakh)

That, of course, was part of King Solomon’s dedication of the Temple to God. The vast majority of the dedication and, as I said before, of the Bible as a whole, is directed solely at the Children of Israel, the Jewish people, but some parts of it reveal His plan for the rest of us as well.

Since the beginning, since before the founding of the nation of Israel, since before Abraham, the Almighty has desired that ALL PEOPLE come to Him.

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. All the Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had also been poured out on the Gentiles. For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter responded, “Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?” And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days. –Acts 10:44-48

When Peter saw that God had granted the Holy Spirit to the (non-covenant) gentiles just as he had to the (covenantal including New Covenant) Jews, he realized that God was treating all peoples impartially. Yes, the Jews had special responsibilities and a special role before God, but the gentiles weren’t “sloppy seconds” either.

God even sees those who oppose Him with love (but not without judgment). That includes not only unbelievers but those who actively oppose Him and His followers such as Darwin, The UnVirgin Mary, Tori atheist, and Gregory Knight (you can find them on X, formerly known as “twitter”).

Rights, equality, justice, and yes, judgment. Christians don’t get a free pass to sin and to abuse other people as we are accused of. We face a judgment for all that we’ve done, and we really need to take that more seriously.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive compensation for his deeds done through the body, in accordance with what he has done, whether good or bad. –2 Corinthians 5:10

Being “saved” doesn’t mean being without consequences for our actions.

But again, in that and just about everything else, we are equal before God. In fact, in spite of the strictly human efforts to bring about equality or equity or whatever, as our King who will rule over all the Earth in days to come, ONLY in the Messianic Era will humanity know the equal applications of rights. Only then, not before. People tend to muck up perfection really badly, although they don’t see it in themselves.

This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to bring about some of that in the here and now. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t treat others with respect, compassion, kindness, and with an open heart. Remember, we will be judged for whatever we’ve done, both good and bad. So do good.

Again, keep in mind that doing good and being kind DOESN’T mean tolerating all manner of sin, disrespect, evil, violence, and cruelty on Earth. However, we do have to be careful what we call evil and what we do about it.

As I mentioned in my Dave Ramsey blog post, Christians can and do go “overboard” in the area of judgment and commit unjust and cruel acts supposedly in Christ’s Name. Being a Christian is a daily activity in self-assessment and judgment. The first person in the world we need to worry about is the one we see in the mirror.

In the end, realize that in spite of how the world treats you or maybe because of it, God loves you, cares for you, and judges you by the same general standards as He does everyone else (teachers of the Word and others in authority will be judged more harshly, but that’s another story).

I titled this article referencing Schrödinger’s Cat which is a thought experiment illustrating “a paradox of quantum superposition wherein a hypothetical cat may be considered both alive and dead simultaneously because its fate is linked to a random event that may (or may not) occur.” The pie may or may not be in the box depending on circumstances and how we understand “pie.”

But enough of pie, that is, unless you’re contemplating dessert.
